In praise of The Playlist…

The Golden Apples celebrates the new RTRFM online playlist System (you are looking at it) with a show all about Claude creating a playlist and how artists and tracks can relate to each other in all sorts of strange and interesting ways.

Oh and it is only a one hour show due to the Outside Broadcast that follows but worth sticking around for as some great local bands are performing.

The Goner is a band from Stockholm Sweden, First discovered on the Golden Apples last year via the Bitemarks EP out on Dying for Bad Music and available for free download. They have a new album out for 2012. “Hello Friend, Today I Will Sing Beautifully For You”

Daniel Westerlund  has put together a mixtape which we play on todays show as the main feature. He describes it simply like this .” I called it SWEDISH DELIGHTS MIXTAPE. Some of the songs are new, some old, some forgotten, some unknown”

The band have a Soundcloud Page including thier latest tracks and they describe the music like this…”Here is a waltz. It could be about coast lines or long time friends or cabins on the hillsides resembling dying fires during night time. Or maybe it’s about something different altogether. – Surely it must be about ancient forests up north, covered in fog, during the summer of 2010? We hear you ask. It could be. We say and gesture towards the coffee pot. You seem slightly unnerved by our vagueness. But that’s alright. It’s still early. This time of morning we don’t have to regard everything in our lives with absolute certainty, wouldn’t you agree? We don’t say this out loud. But we think it. And you can see that. But you still haven’t touched your coffee. And we wonder why. Surely it must be about borrowing a friends bicycle and riding it all summer long? And at the same time pretending it’s really a tandem? We hear you ask. –  It could be. Spring is coming. But you’ve been around for a while and you know better. There’s always time for doubt…”

Here is a little 10 minute sampler. If you like folk meets jazz meets beats then…

… then The Golden Apples totally recommends these. They might just be the best thing you hear all year.  Beautiful and Beautiful 2. Phil Most Chill AKA Soulman creates super mixtapes over at his blog THAT REAL SCHITT – mainly they are beat-influenced but in 2009 and 2010 Phil started to take side-trips to somewhere else way out there that is ‘Beautiful’ and full of space for the music and we think that you will want to go there with him… you really will.. no tracklistings but that just makes the listening experience even better for that magical listening moment … we have re-upped them here at the Golden Apples to help spread the word… send your love to Soulman over at his blog and beg him for some more of this….Claude
