Radio Show – 25 November – Episode 94

This episode of the Golden Apples of the Sun is curated by Claude Mono who spent days and nights in his laboratory without sleep cooking up the special blue crystals that form this show ‘Are you serious …This is the best man…”

Sleeve Notes

A mystery prelude… as the show starts with a track that is obviously of some epic soundtrack but sadly I only have the sound file I got from somewhere so do not know what it is. I thought it might have been a Charlie Clouser track perhaps from Saw 3 but it is not. If you know what this track is please e-mail claude_mono@hotmail.com – this mystery is killing me…UPDATE – solved… Theme From Requiem For A Dream  – the track is Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell – its the remix – listen here

Anyway the next track I do know – its This Mortal Coil. I first heard this track on the sublime Trentmoller LateNightTales mix – one of the best in the series. This in its original state can be found on the just released This Mortal Coil  4AD 4 CD Box Set (see photo below). The albums are packaged in paper sleeves printed to the highest standard by the Ichikudo company in Japan, along with inner sleeves and booklets. The fourth album, which won’t be available to general retail outside the box set, incorporates unseen images of Pallas Citroën, the ‘face’ of This Mortal Coil. Next up Brisbane’s finest Founds offer spectacular, hypotonic and ethereal sounds on their debut Hadean. Later I go a bit crazy with Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin of Air and an Alone in Kyoto Five-play. I never get tired of watching Lost In Translation – can a movie be like a favourite album?. The Lost In Translation soundtrack was originally on the now sadly defunkt Emperor Norton records but I always wanted there to be a second volume and as there was not I made my own andYOU can download  Claude Mono’s  Lost In Translation 2 here

How did I get from Air to Fleetwood Mac.? … I don’t know – it was the Dreams (Flight Facilities Remix). This remix came about as an edit Flight Facilities created to play it at Paris Social Club for a 70’s party. The strings, piano and vocal at the beginning come from ‘The Lowbrows – Dream In The Desert (Flight Facilities Remix)’. Well Rumours is only one of the most lushly produced multi-layered overdubbed AOR masterpieces you will ever get to hear… dont believe me? – get the double disc Deluxe Remaster and pretend you are in the studio mixing down tracks and snorting cocaine with Mick, Lindsay and Stevie…you’ll see…

Later Perth’s own Masonik recorded live at the DADA Records Basement. Post-Duchamp Exhibition Generator  Textured improvisation and beat abstraction. A set that saw Masonik perform in their natural element… Vj projections & freeforming in an exhibition performance/live video installation – art & soundtrack …. fused – in a sonic homage to the father of Dada… Marcel Duchamp. And there is more with another live  track from o2Memetic Subcontinent – Masonik’s performance of Eastern structured drones, beats & improvisation. Then you hear womthing else you are coming out – it’s the late 60s and Jonny Teupen’s Love Me as found on Verve Psychedelic Jazz – Masonik and Jonny Teupen are also slightly enhanced with the sounds of Doctor Timothy Leary…Tune In Turn in Drop Out

…and there is more … Eraserhead…The Wickerman… early electro bossa-pop 80s style from Antena originally on the Factory Benelux label and too soon the show finishes with one of 2012’s best so far and the return of JB Dunckel  with his new muse together as Tomorrows World…

A Psych-Folk-Horror Themed Wedding?

We wanted to include the things that we love: great music, the handmade,

plenty of colour, nature, the outdoors and each other. We’ve been into folk

music and particularly psychedelic folk for a while, so that was always going

to be part of the musical element of our day.”

Jade N behind the wheels of the hauntological golden apples machine for Episode 92, carving a path between new and old weird psych-folk, electronica and pastoral pop . . . Over the two hour peregrination you will find: a selection of southern hemisphere psych-folk; an 80s hauntology set including a Sade record re-touched by a ghost; a smattering of golden apples Radiohead selections (including a local prog jazz cover of a Radiohead classic); obscure psych from Germany and Thailand; a new Soundcarriers single; and James Holden remixing Mogwai . . . these just a few highlights in the continuous flow of aural pleasure . . .
