In this digital world something has arrived in the post. Its from Thistle Cottage Recordings and Oakenwood Art Studio and its always the nicest way for new music to arrive…

“Songs from the shire…Wend a merry way along an ancient country pathway. Rural English life, real or idealised; shire horses, rustling field mice and mysterious hares, fires in great hearths, autumn evenings”

haunted_air book

A strange but wonderful book for any Golden Apples part-time Hauntologists and collectors of weird visual ephemera. Haunted Air is subtitled ‘A Collection of Anonymous Halloween Photographs America 1875 – 1955’ …thanks for directions fron Boing Boing

“Ossian Brown was a member of the dark, magical electronic music group Coil and is currently in duo Cyclobe with his partner Stephen Thrower. Ossian is a strange attractor. Weird things find him. Like his exquisite collection of antique vernacular photographs of Halloweens past. Brown compiled his favorites of the freaky found photos, all dating between 1875 and 1955, into a lovely new book titled Haunted Air. David Lynch wrote the introduction and Geoff Cox the afterword. Here is a glimpse of how the old, weird America celebrated All-Hallows Eve…”

Graeme Watson presents

Listen Here

1. Give Me, Take You By Duncan Browne
This is the title track off Duncan Browne’s debut album from July, 1968. Released on Andrew Loog Oldham’s short lived Immediate label it’s a folky album with mediaval sounds.

2. Lucky One by Pure Bathing Culture
Something new from this two piece comprising Daniel Hindman and Sarah Versprille, they’re from Portland Oregon on their self titled debut EP is out on Father Daughter Records.

3. Just Remember This by Taragana Pyjarama
Taken off their recently released second album Tipped Bowls, out on Kompact.

4. Asleep from Day by The Chemical Brothers
Mazy Star’s Hope Sandoval provides beautiful vocals on this track off 2009’s Surrender album.

5. Cathederals by Will Samson
Twenty three year ol Samson’s album Balance was released in October 2012. Uncut magazine gave it 8/10 and called it ‘Enoesque’.

6. May Sun by Causa Sui
Causa Sui is a psychedlic side project of Danish musician Jonas Monk who performs uner the moniker Manual. Their early EP’s have just been released on iTunes, this tracks off Pewt’r Sessions 1.

7. Never Never Land By The Robbie Boyd Band
I was in London in February last year walking down Portebello Road, Robbie Boyd was busking at the side of the road. He’s released his first EP called Autumn’s Flow.

8. Most Magical by Nir Na Nog
This 1973 track is from the Irish band’s Strong in the Sun album, their last LP before they went on hiatus for a few years.

9. Lover by Devendra Banhart
I picked this track because it has quite a T-Rex quality to it.

10. Childlike Men by T Rex
Last September Marc Bolan would have been 65 years old, this track created by his son Morgan and producer Tony Visconti (Morgan’s step father) is a merging of several T-Rex tunes and as bit of spoken word in the middle.

11. Valley of Paradise by Psychmagic
There’s no secret that this is one of my favourite bands at the moment, described as drowsy disco – there’s a good chance you’re going to hear a lot of them on RTRFM’s new Monday night show Disco Science.

12. Floe 87 by Memory Tapes and Philip Glass
Philip Glass is in town for the Perth International Arts Festival on February 16, there are still a few A-reserve tickets available. This remix from Memory Tapes is from the recent Glass remix album Rework.

13. Pegasus by Errors
From the Glasweign bands fourth LP, a much more relaxed affair than their previous outings.

14. Digging from Shelters by Neil Halstead
This song is lifted off Palindrome Hunches, the recently released third LP from the former frontman of Mojave 3 and Slowdive. Halstead just keeps getting folkier and folkier.

15. While Your Sleeping, I’m Dreaming by Tamaryn
Total shoegaze moment, from their second album Tender New Signs out now on Mexican Summe.r

16. {Awayland} by Villagers
Villagers have just released their new album, their fourth so far. The title track is a beautiful instrumental piece; it’s an album that grows on you with repeat listenings, best experienced on your own with some headphones.

17. Happy Time by Tim Buckley
A mate of mine was in a particular grumpy mood recently, so I made him a mix tape of songs with the word happy in it, and I rediscovered this great song from Tim Buckley.

18. It was for you, it was for us by Bvdub
Bvdub has got to be one of the most prolific artists out there; this is off his hirst release for 2013 – A Careful Ectasy. It’s his 16th album, last year he put out five full albums, and the year before he achieved sevan albums in a year. If you’re after 16 albums of ambient chill – he’s your guy.

19. Feels Like We’re Only Going Backwards (Young Dreams Version) by Tame Impala
This one of two remixes Tame Impala have put out of the popular song from their latest album, the other mix is by Memory Tapes.

20. Mushroom Forrest by Paul White
From Paul White and the Purple Brain – its one very trippy CD.

21. Star Change by Sean McCann
Taken off his album The Capital.

22. Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Joe Banfi
This English musician from Northwich has been described as a cross between grunge and folk, his vocals get really husky in the second half on this traditional tune.

23. Innocent Reprise by Mountain of One
I picked up this collection of tunes from English band Mountain of One on a recent trip to Sydney. It was put out in 2007 and comprises their early EPs.

24. A Fire Somewhere by Ray Stinnett

Beautuful sounds on new 2013 album “The Island Come True” which is Moffat’s fourth album as L. Pierre and is …a work assembled from the vast cavern of his assembled field recordings and samples, a collage that works as a sonic patchwork of the 39 year-old’s own mind”.
