The Golden Apples of the Sun

After a long absence Mark Davies returns to the hot seat at The Golden Apples of the Sun on RTRFM for a show based loosely around the theme of hauntology. Many of today’s tracks are very recent releases with a high percentage projects conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic lock downs that have impacted on many of out lives in ways we could scarcely have imaged previously.  

So what is hauntology? In terms of music, it emerged largely as a British genre of eerie electronics fixated on ideas of decaying memory and lost futures and evoking the past by utilizing the “spectral sounds of old music technology”. The genre if you can call it that often involves the sampling of older sound sources to evoke deep cultural memory. more of a flavour or atmosphere than a style with boundaries. 

All the selections today are from artists based the UK baring a sole track from a French artist.
