Special Guests – Yomi Ship – Episode 576

Special guests the members of Yomi Ship curate and present edition of Golden Apples of the Sun show, joined in the studio by the one and only Drew Krapljanov. The band gives the run down:

“We’ve got some good tunes picked out including artists such as Animal Collective, Brian Eno, Black midi and some other psychedelic/ambient/electronic stuff that we regularly enjoy listening to. We’ll also be chatting about our upcoming show with Plini as well as what we get up to in our spare time, some exclusive details about our upcoming album and so much more”.

Yomi Ship are Nick Osborne, Jade Champion and Jared Osborne and play psychedelic progressive instrumental music drawing influences from experimental rock giants The Mars Volta, as well as the sounds of psychedelic space rock from early Pink Floyd.

The band present a new form of Experimental Art rock filled with unorthodox structures and rhythms, anchoring bass and reverb drenched guitar. Yomi Ship has created their own particular brand using old silent-movie and psychedelic visuals, fragrant scents, and near dream state soundscapes in a live atmospheric experience that activates all the pleasurable senses. Something that can’t be experienced….unless you are there with them.

The making of the Beatles original…

Origins

The primary influence for the lyrics of ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ was a book called ‘The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead’. It was written by the counterculture guru Timothy Leary along with Richard Alpert and Ralph Metzner. John Lennon purchased the book in a London bookshop/art gallery called Indica. He went home and read the book while taking a ‘trip’, and wrote the song based on the experience. Briefly, the author’s instruction while reading the book was;

Whenever in doubt, turn off your mind, relax, float downstream.”

Timothy Leary – The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead

Here are the lyrics:

Turn off your mind relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void,
It is shining, it is shining.
Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being
Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing
And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing
But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving
So play the game “Existence” to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning

Tomorrow Never Knows – John Lennon
